Therapy Suggestions

Are you unsure of what type of therapy may work for you? Met too (lol) Ask your therapist about:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

I’ve done this twice, that is how much I loved it. The first time I did it in person and the second time virtual. I love options! This therapeutic modality helped me to face tough memories and give them new meaning. It is definitely worth a try. For more information visit:

DBT
(Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

I wish I could turn back time and learn the skills taught in DBT in my teens. Better late than never.  DBT’s model has trained me to regulate my emotions and respond with my wise mind. I love the practicality of this model and all the mindfulness practices. For more information visit:

Talk Therapy

works wonders. It’s like talking to a close friend but better. In these sessions all the focus is on ME, I mean YOU! In these sessions I had many ah-ha moments when connecting the dots. Serious mind blowing awaits you. For more information visit:

Mindfulness

Speaking of mindfulness, if you’re not practicing mindfulness daily, you are missing out, BIG!!! They are mini mental vacations anytime and anywhere. There are so many kinds. Toss your least favorites back into the bin and go bananas over your top picks. Watch this video and learn more about mindfulness.

Here is a practice I designed. Try it HERE and NOW!! Also become a friend and receive more of my mindfulness practices in the future.

Bookshelf Recommendations

Disclaimer: These are not self help books. These are books that you should help yourself to (shrug).

I’ve read so many great books. They’ve helped me to both understand my trauma and all the LLEs. If you like to read, check these out…also become a friend and be the first to know about our next book club.

The Body Keeps Score

Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD

I love this book so much. It is one of my favorite giveaways at speaking events. Yep, I said giveaways, another great reason to become a friend. YAY!

The Book of Forgiving

Desmond Tutu & MPHO TuTu
Powerful! Heartfelt! And more! Free tip before reading: you need a journal and a stone. This book captures the power of storytelling.

Claim Your Power

Mastin Kipp
Whatever you do, please don’t rush through this book. I want you to get all the goodness I received from reading this gem. Grab one of my journals to read with this.

What Happened to You

Bruse D. Perry, MD, PhD & Oprah Winfrey
I love me some Oprah. If you are a therapist, this is a must read. If not, this is a must read. Did I mention, this is a must read.

Mental Health Go-To's

Here are a few of my favorite mental health go-tos…

JOurnaling

This helps to organize my thoughts. A little mental organization can provide you with great relief from ruminations and anxiety.  Try journaling to this journaling playlist on Spotify

Sleep

Don’t sleep on the benefits of good rest. Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Avoid using your phone at least 30 mins before falling asleep. Design a tailor-made sleep routine and stick to it. Spotify has a great playlist for sleep.  Free tip: remember to set a sleep timer in the app.

Outdoors

Go outside! Get some sun. Put on rain boots and step in every puddle you find. My #1 favorite healing place is in nature. Find a trail on All Trails App. Go explore your mind and find your path.

Workout

Exercise is a fantastic stress reliever. Try Yoga and get 2 for 1! A workout and a mindfulness practice.

Check out Adriene and Benji (her dog). My go-to yoga partner.

Check out Juice and Toya (newlyweds). Great strength training workouts

Check out Pamela Reif. International music,  international views and dynamic workouts.
